It’s not quite like the last Bollywood horror film 13-B, but yes, this tale does involve a house... and, trying to live in that house, is Bollywood hottie Bipasha Basu!

Bips, who has a penthouse in a Santacruz high-rise, was forced to move out when this place took a beating in the savage rains of 26/7 in 2005. “I had to get my home renovated after that horrible incident,’’ said the Bengali beauty, who moved into a rented apartment a few lanes away while the interior work began in her devastated penthouse. And here comes the twist in the tale.

“I started getting a lot of negative vibes,” admitted Bipasha, “I just didn’t feel good living there.” What’s worse — since it was a rented place, she had to send her pet dog Poshto, a Chihuahua the actress absolutely dotes on, to live with her parents at their suburban home.
But the bad vibes in rented apartment really took their toll on her in the last couple of months. And finally Bips locked up the place and began virtually living out of a suitcase. “I’m even endorsing a luggage brand only for this,’’ she joked.

She’s started looking forward to outdoor shoots now, the actress said, “because this way I don’t have to go around Mumbai looking for a roof over my head”.

SRK defends his Knight Riders!

Be it his films or his IPL franchisee Knight Riders, SRK puts his mouth where his heart is. Like in this interview to BT hours after the Knight Riders scored their first points in IPL-II on Tuesday, after winning against Kings XI Punjab courtesy the Duckworth-Lewis method. The turning point in that match, feels SRK, was that the entire team got into the act. “Dada getting quick wickets, Ishant Sharma doing his bit, and then Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum coming out and batting like that, it was heartening to see the team supporting one another,” says SRK. But even as he states that the Knight Riders were “deserving winners”, he admits that the Knights are also “spirited losers”. “We were cold at the start of the tournament,” SRK says it as it is, when asked about the team’s dismal first performance against Team Hyderabad, “but the first few matches are all about team building and team strengthening, and we’re getting there.”

Over to the team. Is there additional pressure on the Knights to perform, considering the team has been mired in controversies from the start? “What everyone says need not always be true. We have a thought process behind our decisions, be it the multi-captain theory or the change of captain. We aren’t bothered by controversy, in fact, it brings us closer, binds us more, when the world puts us down, we find confidence and support in each other. We stick to what we believe in, we Knights are married to each other,” says the ever-positive Khan.

The Knights will play against last year’s champs Team Rajasthan today, tough match? “Each match is tough, because the pitches are unknown to us. But we’ll give Shane Warne and his team an entertaining fight!” promises SRK. But the Bollywood star has a peculiar dilemma — he was born in Delhi, works in Mumbai and owns a Kolkata franchisee — how does he balance his loyalties?

“Kolkata is my playground, Mumbai, my home. It just shows I’m a true Indian, a walking, talking epitome of being a true Indian!” he laughs. But despite being the owner of the team, SRK knows when to step back and let others do the talking.

“When it comes to cricket, I am also an outsider. I let those who know the game make the decisions. I don’t know if a decision is good or bad, but I will support it nonetheless. I treat my team like I treat my children, and fans should support us in good times and bad. It should be from the heart...” No wonder, then, that King Khan is their Knight in shining armour!

Deepika Padukone wakes up as early as 6 am everyday.No, she doesn’t go jogging to beau Ranbir Kapoor’s bungalow which is next door. Instead she heads for the garden in her building and begins her fitness routine that includes yoga, free-hand exercises, et al. Her neighbours initially were curious about her everyday routine. She’s not even working with Vivek, so Vidya’s anxious to nip the romance rumour in the bud. Rather tersely, the actress whose own fortunes are seeming to be on the uprise told BT that there was no question about her falling for Vivek and finally finding true love. “I have met Vivek some one-and-a-half times only,” said Vidya. Deepika-Kat musical chairs!

On days when Rishi Kapoor is shooting with Deepika Padukone (his son Ranbir’s girlfriend) for Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal, he jokes with close friends, saying, “I’m shooting with Bahurani (daughter-in-law) today.’’

From the time they started dating, Ranbir and Deepika have been inseparable, and she’s also been a part of all important occasions in the Kapoor home. However, insisders say that Neetu Singh, Ranbir’s mother, isn’t ecstatic about her son’s choice of girlfriend.

A family friend dismisses this talk, saying, “Neetu is overpossessive about Ranbir and isn’t going to be over the moon about any girl he brings home until she’s 100 per cent convinced that the girl is best for her son. However, Neetu is very amiable and pleasant with Deepika.’’
While Deepika has to strive hard to find complete approval from her boyfriend’s mother, there is also the added stress about Ranbir’s proximity with his co-star of Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani — the sexy Katrina Kaif. That Deepika took time off from promoting Chandni Chowk to China in January and air-dashed to Ooty where Ranbir and Katrina were shooting because she heard rumours of their proximity, is known.

A source from the CC2C unit was witness to her distress. While all of Ranbir’s close friends accept Deepika as his official girlfriend and are even keen that these two hot stars should actually walk up the aisle someday, rumours of the Katrina-Ranbir friendship continue to gain momentum, and with good reason.

Talk has it that when Ranbir and Imran Khan were practicing for the Filmfare Awards at Yashraj Studios, even though Katrina wasn’t required till much later the same evening, she was there from 11 in the morning chatting up Ranbir.

Katrina and Ranbir haven’t shot for Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti yet, because RK Jr joins the schedule only in August, but both share a common secretary and are being tapped by more film-makers as a hot-n-happening couple. This is also said to be adding to bahurani Deepika’s woes.

Incidentally, where does Salman Khan, Katrina’s official date, fit in all this? Well, he is said to be good friends with Asin, who reportedly resides in a flat that has been rented by Salman. An interesting round of musical chairs is being played, no wonder the industry can’t stop singing!
